LM5107: Connect HO and LO of LM5107 to FET with GND reference.

Part Number: LM5107
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27624

Hi,

Is it possible to connect HO and LO to the FET with GND reference as shown in the attached diagram?

Thanks,

Conor

  • Hey Conor,

Thanks for your question regarding the LM5107.

For this setup, it appears that you would be more suited for a dual-channel low-side driver such as the UCC27624.

If you could share more about this application and the operating conditions such as what the FETs are connected to and switching frequency that would be helpful in determining if you need the LM5107 half-bridge driver or a dual-channel low-side driver.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thank you,

    William Moore

  • Hi William,

If you could share more about this application and the operating conditions such as what the FETs are connected to and switching frequency that would be helpful in determining if you need the LM5107 half-bridge driver or a dual-channel low-side driver.

・Application: Power supply for industrial machinery
・FET connection: Connect Vcc to Drain and consider push-pull type operation
    ・Switching frequency: about 30kHz

The reason why we considered using the LM5107 this time was because we had a track record of using it.
I would appreciate it if you could comment on whether the above method of use is possible with the LM5107.

    Thanks,

    Conor

  • Hey Conor,

You can use the LM5107 as a dual-channel low-side driver here. To do so, you must connect HB to VDD and also connect HS to VSS. Doing this will bypass the level shifter and there will be no shoot through protections.

As long as the propagation delays and drive strength of the LM5107 are suitable for your application, then you are good to go. Otherwise, exploring options with a low-side driver such as the UCC27624 may be necessary.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thank you,
