TPS7A20: TPS7A2025PYCJR Performance problem

We put 5pcs on the board of this product, and after a long time accelerated aging test (power 60℃ 85%RH 720Hr), the test is normal. However, after being stored at high temperature and humidity for a period of time (80℃ 85%RH 96Hr), it was found that the test of 1pcs was abnormal, and no voltage output was found by testing the power chip with a multimeter

Could you please help confirm the cause

For the TPS7A2025PYCJR this was tested with 130C/85%RH at 96 hours with a lot of 25 units passing this qualification.

Hey Yingjiao,

The test you are describing as done within our Qualification testing and we did not have any failures on our side. In our Qualification testing we tested 25 units at 130C/85%RH/96 hours under more stringent conditions (130C compared to 80C) and had no fails. We cannot replicate this failure on our side. Hopefully this helps explain more.

Hey Yingjiao,

Can you clarify what you mean by high welding temperature? The tests described above should not result in the burnt device pictured. Were there other tests performed?

1. If the chip is poorly welded, will it affect the service life if it is re-welded with a hot air gun (250℃-290℃, 2-3min)

2. Is this test a storage test?

3, whether there is accelerated life test information in the working state

Thank you for your clarification. Please see response from our reliability engineer below.

1) This is an uncontrolled process to attach a package to a board. Re-welded or re-soldered unit may not have sufficient solder left to make a robust joint resulting in a weak joint. In TI we do not characterize the reliability of re-worked or re-soldered units to the board therefore it is difficult to make any comment regarding re-welded unit reliability using a hot air gun.

2) Reliability performance of the re-welded unit using hot air gun most likely resulted in solder joint failure.
