Looking for buck boost or combination to drive LED strips

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS922055, TPS922054

Chip to drive total of  around 144 LEDs in series and parallel combination

LED Spec:

Forward voltage, Vf - 3.3V

Current - 125mA

Configuration:

6 LEDs in series - 3.3*10 = 33V

24 sets in parallel - 0.125mA*24 = 3.0A

Controller board with 3 rings of LED strips

Supply voltage 8-18V, so I need to boost the power rail to take in account the Vf

  • Hi Samuel,

One way to do this is shown below:

    • First boost the 8-18V supply voltage to a level higher than 33V, like 48V, with a normal constant-voltage DC-DC boost converter / controller
    • Then use a Buck LED driver (constant-current driver), like TPS922054, TPS922055, to drive the LED strings to the target current.

    Best Regards,

    Steven
