BQ76952: BQ76952 current(CC2) value change with a fixed step size(0.06A)

Part Number: BQ76952

Hi TI team:

We found some anomalies when read the current from CC2(0x3A). When we pass the resistive load through the electronic load meter, the real-time value of the current display will exist near A certain value and jump with a fixed 0.06A change.
example: real current is 1A, the value of reading change between these values :0.94/1.00/1.06/1.12

1. The current should not have a regular toggle back and forth phenomenon under the premise of resistive load?
2. Each beat is performed in the unit of 0.06A, 0.06 is any special meaning?
3. We have tried to gradually change the actual on-load current from 0.01 to 0.06, and the BMS read-back current is still 0 and 0.06, but the beating frequency is slightly different, which makes us doubt whether there is a relevant filtering calculation inside;

Our current schematic design is as follows, and the sampling resistance used is 125uΩ :

  • Hello Zhiwen,

    This is likely the offset error, which is 1-LSB for the current measurements of this device. 1-LSB for this is given in the datasheet as 7.6-uV.

    With a 125-uOhm sense resistor, this offset error would show up as 7.6-uV/125-uOhm = ~0.061-A. Which sounds like exactly the value error that you are seeing. This error is random, so the average value over time should be close to 0.

  • Hello Luis,

    I have seen two different LSB for Current measurements about BQ76952. One is 29.56nV that refer to "Technical Reference Manual", the other one is 7.6uV form datasheet

    The current measuremnet of BQ76952 is 16-bit or 24-bit?

  • Hello Zhiwen,

    As it is mentioned in the TRM, that is the unprocessed data, before any gain or offset. The LSB for the unprocessed data is 29.56-nV.

    CC2 will offer the already processed data, and it will be 16 bits. The LSB for CC2 would be 7.6-uV.
