Hi experts,

You know LED has two kind of failure mode: fail open or fail short. I am curious what will happen if one or more LEDs in a stack failed (open or short)? My understanding is the other LEDs in stack can still be light on since the failed LED is bypassed periodically. Another question is, once one or more LEDs in a stack failed (open or short), is there any way to detect such kind of condition? (based on voltage or current )

Hi John,

Nice to hear you.

Some of our devices have the open/short fault detect and report function such as LP5860.

For those devices, they can report the fault independently for each LED dots.

Thank you. Yes I know large number of LED drivers has such features.

But this is a special application for which the feature of TPS92411 is specifically fit.

Hi John,

The device only has OVP function could be used to bypass the LED stacks from open fault.
