UCC23514: Is there a reference design for the multi tube parallel connection scheme of UCC23514, including schematic and layout, etc

Part Number: UCC23514
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , UCC21732

Is there a reference design for the multi tube parallel connection scheme of UCC23514, including schematic and layout, etc. What are the differences between the multi tube parallel connection design scheme and the following UCC23514evm single tube scheme reference designs? How should we specifically design it?

  • Hi Tony,

Do I understand correctly, you are seeking advice on how to configure multiple UCC23514 devices in parallel? Perhaps to drive a gate of large Silicon Carbide Module? The theoretical problem with this idea is there is no "break before make" between the drivers. A mismatch in the propagation delay could cause transient short circuits between the driver outputs. It sounds like a better idea to just use a larger gate driver, which also might have helpful features for protecting larger, more expensive switches.

I do not know of a TI Design that demonstrates this circuit configuration.

There is some material in the UCC21732 datasheet which discusses driving multiple FET gates with one UCC21732, and using external miller clamps driven by CLMPE, which prevents shorting all the gates together and increasing current sharing imbalance.

Can you discuss your strategy with this circuit? Are you willing to consider one of our larger gate drivers instead?

    Best regards,

    Sean
