UCD9248 and UCD8220 connectivity

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD9248, UCD7231, UCD8220

Hi,

my customer is designing a 4-ch digital power supply based on UCD9248 and a number of UCD8220s. Now the UCD9248 in prototype measures correctly the input/output currents and voltages, but don't control them. For example,

@ Vin=10V, in FusionPower: @page CONFIGURE (Vin 10V, Vout=4.5V, Iout=1A …); At the page MONITOR/OPERATION the customer sees V=4,6V. It looks fine

then the customer changes Vin to 8V (UVW=4.5V, UVF=4V), in this case the Vout=3.3V

then the customer changes Vin to 10V (UVW=14.5V, UVF=15V), in this case the Vout=5,7V...

The customer adjusts the parameters in the FusionPower based on existing design with UCD7231 with close parameters calculated to isolated design with UCD8220, because there we didn't find ref. schematic for isolated power supply.

Can you advise if this problem occured already? which doc to recommend to the customer to calculate the design of PS with UCD9248+UCD8220?

  • The UCD92xx product line was not intended for isolated designs which is why there is no documentation on using it for these types of applications.

Resolution will most likely require access to schematics and project file,

I would suggest contacting the local field support to determine the best course of action to follow given the current situation.

  • Brad, thanks for reply. We are aware of the fact that the design on UCD30k could not be ported to UCD92k.

How can I reposit the thread?
