TPS25730: About Request Messages

Part Number: TPS25730

Hi team,

The TPS25730 will return a Request message in response to a Source Capabilities message from a Source device such as a USB-C AC Adapter.
What is the setting of the "USB Communication Capable" flag in the Request message? What is the setting of the "USB Communication Capable" flag in the Request message?
(Can it be set externally or is it a fixed setting? If fixed, what is the setting?)

Sincerely,
Ryu.

  • Hi Ryu,

Let me check with the team and I'll get back to you later in the week.

My assumption is that it would be disabled, as the device is meant to be a power only device acting like a barrel jack replacement. Configurable settings should be described in the datasheet or TRM. I do not see it there, so it is likely fixed.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Chris

  • Hi Ryu,

I was able to confirm with the team that the USB Communication Capable flag in the Request message is set to "0", and is fixed.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

    Thanks for the reply.
If Flag = 0 fixed, it seems that TPS25730 cannot be used for USB-C Port for data communication, but can TPS25730 be used for USB-C Port for data communication?

    Sincerely,
    Ryu.

  • Hi Ryu,

Not 100% sure what you are asking here, but I can provide some general responses.

The TPS25730 does not interact with the data on the DP/DN or SS lines, so any USB communication there can occur somewhat outside the scope of the PD controller.

One issue that may occur is that the source side PD controller may interpret the USB Communication Capable flag in the Request message as 0 and not attempt to enumerate USB on the port. This would prevent USB data communication.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris
