TPS25942L: TPS25942L heat generation calculation

Hi,

I'm considering using the WQFN package for TPS25942L. The current consumed by the TPS25942L is large and I am concerned about heat generation. I would like to check how to calculate the theoretical maximum heat value of TPS25942L. Am I correct in my understanding that if the P[W] of the IC exceeds 2.7W from Tj= (θja x P) + Ta = ( 38.1[℃/W] x P[W] ) + 25℃, it is difficult to use the TPS25942L from the standpoint of heat generation?

Hi Conor,

This might help you regarding the thermal metrics: Semiconductor and IC Package Thermal Metrics (Rev. C) (ti.com)

For checking the feasibility of device for your application, you can use P[W] vs Time to TSD graph. Section 10.2.2.5 shows example for start-up case.

Here you can see that device can handle 2.7W Power Dissipation for very long time.
