TPS25751: Can we support 5V/3A by BQ25756?

Part Number: TPS25751
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25756, LM76005

Hello Sir:

We refer the TPS25751 to design PD 3.0 application.

We found that PP5V needs 5V/3A capability which is used for 5V/3A source for VBUS.

Can we use BQ25756 to support 5V/3A for VBUS?

If yes, can we change the LM76005 power capability to 5V/0.5A?

Please kindly provide your recommendations.

Thanks a lot.

  • Hi Statham,

Yes, the TPS25751 has the capability to use the bq25756 for the 5-V Sourcing.

The requirements for the PP5V power capability now primarily come from VCONN (cable power) requirements, and a small amount of IC power. Below is an image from the spec and a decision making tree for power requirements.

For the worst case, we currently expect about 1.5-W (.3-A @ 5-V). Because we have made this change recently, a little overhead on the power capability (.5-A) is not a bad idea.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Chris
