TPS61183: LED Driver

Hi FS,

May I know what is the LED current you want? Seems this LED has a maximum 5A capability, but what is the real current you want in your application?

I appreciate your response. 

I am using only 12 small pieces from the given strip that means 4 LEDs make one set, totaling 48 LEDs. At 12V, each LED has a voltage drop of 2.7V, and 4 LEDs in series consumes 26mA. All 12 small sets are connected in parallel to each other in a continuous fashion. The total current consumption for the 12 sets is approximately 300mA. However, if I power them all at once, they only consume 100mA to 120mA, which is supposed to be the wrong amperage. I intend to supply each set with a dedicated 26mA channel.

Let me know if you need further clarification on this.

TPS61183 supports channel current up to 30mA, total 180mA. So I think it is okay to use this part for 26mA per channel.

Kindly confirm what will be the output voltage if I use 15V input supply and wants to get 12V at output? Refer to figure 1 application notes TPS61183. Thank you

Hi FS,

TPS61183 is a boost LED driver, so when 15V input applied but you only need 12V output, the boost won't switch and the output voltage will be (VIN - V_diode). V_diode is the forward voltage of the boost diode.

With reference to the TPS61183EVM-528 board do you please specify the voltage regulation if I applied 5V at the input? How can I achieve 12V from 5V? I am looking to buy the EVM board and integrate the chip within our board design. Thank you

Hi FS,

TPS61183 will automatically regulate the output voltage according to your LED string voltage. You need to adjust the resistor divider on OVP pin to set the OVP voltage threshold not lower than your expect output voltage. More information please refer to our datasheet.
