BQ40Z50: BQ40Z50 R3: Abnormally Charge Rate

Part Number: BQ40Z50

Hi,

in my system based on BQ40Z50, after a few charge-discharge cycles the charge rate increases exponentially and finally its stuck at 100%.

Scenario explanation:

1. battery connected to host and starts charging.

2. battery charges at normal rate.

3. now change the RSoC to different value and again allow to charge

4. repeat the step 3 with arbitrary values

Observation: with each iteration the charge rate increases and after a few iterations it stays at 100% and not change or stuck.

What would be the possible reason for this?

regards

Abhijith

  • Hello Abhijith,

The RSOC is a read-only value. What do you mean by step 3?

Can you please send a log file which describes this behavior? I am not fully understanding what charge rate increases after a few iterations.

The gauge will report charging current and charging voltage, but it will only apply these current and voltage if the host is writing this info to the charger.
