BQ24195: Problem with BQ24195EVM-193

Hello TI team,

I just tried to connect the evaluation board BQ24195EVM-193 to PC via USB-TO-GPIO2 interface adapter.

When I have connected the interface adapter to PC, it was detected as USB2GPIO v2.0 USB device and the green LED on the adapter shines. After that, I connected the adapter to the evaluation board, connected +5V power source to J1 of the evaluation board, downloaded an evaluation software BQ2419xEVM - GUI v1.5.0.1 from dr-download.ti.com/.../sluc391a.zip and then launched the software. At the bottom of the screen, there is a message "No USB Bridge Attached" and nothing more happens. When I try to read or write, there is nothing on SCL and SDA but 3.3V. It seems that the software is incompatible with the adapter. I tried to do it with 3 different PCs with Windows 10 and also with compatibility mode but the result was the same.

What could be the reason of the problem? Perhaps some another software and/or device driver is required?

    Hi,

    Unfortunately the software is deprecated and is no longer updated so it is not compatible with the USB-to-GPIO2, only the USB-to-GPIO original. Moving forward this charger requires the USB2ANY tool along with the TI Charger GUI for evaluation and communication. You can still use that software with the USB-to-GPIO original tool, just not the v2 version.

    Hi Juan,

    unfortunately it is impossible to buy USB-to-GPIO because it is obsolete.

    When I tried to buy USB-to-GPIO, USB-to-GPIO2 was recommended as a modern altenative. It seems that because of this incorrect information I purchased an adapter that it is unusable.

    Is there a way to downgrade my USB-to-GPIO2 to USB-to-CPIO? Perhaps a different firmware version is necessary?

    Is there any software that works with USB-to-GPIO2 that can at least send bytes to I2C and receive bytes from I2C? If no, can I replace the USB-to-GPIO2 to USB2ANY or any other adapter that can be used with the BQ24195EVM for free?

    I understand the confusion. I'll work to get the product page updated to emphasize the new hardware and eliminate references to the old hardware.

    With regards to downgrading the USB-to-GPIO2, I don't believe there is a way since it is a hardware change between the two.

    Perhaps a customer service representative can help you with this. Unfortunately hardware exchange isn't something that I'm able to help with.

    Since most product lines have transitioned to USB2ANY, there isn't too many softwares that use the USB-to-GPIO2 device. It appears that one software that does is the Fusion Digital Power Designer GUI. I'm not very familiar with its operation but it might provide a manual I2C interfacing function.
