TPS62874-Q1: Ask about the current limit

Part Number: TPS62874-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62875-Q1

Hi team,

Here is the table from the DS, I want to have a check with you:

Q1:Is this current output continue current ?How long can it output continue?

Q2.What's the meaning of the limit current? Are they  RMS current or peak current? If they are RMS current value, how much is the peak current?

Best Regards!

Jack

  • Hello Jack,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

Please see my comments below as highlighted in blue. I hope I was able to address your queries.

Q1:Is this current output continue current ?How long can it output continue?

[Excel] Yes, the table below shows the maximum continuous output current the device can support at Tj ≤ 125 deg. C without operating lifetime derating.

Q2.What's the meaning of the limit current? Are they  RMS current or peak current? If they are RMS current value, how much is the peak current?

[Excel] This parameter indicates the low-side FET peak current limit. Due to the propagation delay from the current sense to the low-side FET gate drive circuits, expect a slightly higher inductor current in actual application.

  • Hi Excel,

Thanks for your reply, my customer is evaluating a solution for SOC power supply, the maximum current is 15A, I wonder if there is a risk for them to use TPS62874-Q1? And which one device do you recommend?

    Best Regards!

    Jack

  • Hi Jack,

If the customer is confident that maximum load is limited to 15A over the entire Vin and Temperature range, then TPS62874-Q1 should be enough.

Does the customer expect the load current is at 15A most of the time? Or only for a short duration? If majority of the time, the output current is ~15A, then it's best to use a device with higher output current (TPS62875-Q1) so it will have a good headroom over potential overcurrent event.

    Best regards,

    Excel
