Thanks for using the e2e forum.

This resistor is only optional.
LM5157x has internal FETs. Because of this, it is not possible to add gate resistance in case the design faces EMI issues or problems with too fast switching flanks.
Instead of a gate resistor, a resistor at VCC can be places to achieve the damping of the switching flanks.
