UCC28C56H-Q1: Seeking Transformer Part Number Advice for LED Strip Circuit Design with UCC28C56H-Q1

I am currently working on designing a circuit for operating an LED strip, powered by a battery with a cutoff voltage of 55V and a maximum voltage of 150V. My goal is to step down the battery voltage to 48V, with a current requirement of 2.5A peak .

To achieve this, I have utilized the Webench tool and selected the UCC28C56H-Q1 as a suitable controller. However, I am encountering a challenge with the transformer part number. The information provided in both the EVM (Evaluation Module) and Webench is unclear.

Could you please suggest a specific transformer part number that is compatible with the UCC28C56H-Q1 for my application? Alternatively, if there's a better-suited option for my design, I am open to recommendations.

Your expertise and guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Thank you for this question, transformer design can be a tricky experience. I'd like to start by saying that transformer design is very circuit specific, requiring a custom design for every unique circuit. I would like to offer this reference design's System Design Theory Section 2.3 to offer some simple guidance in learning the basic equations of transformer design. Additional resources exist at TI such as Under the Hood of Flyback SMPS Designs, and the Magnetics Design Handbook if you would like more in-depth theory on how transformers are designed.

    The transformer listed in your Webench design is actually specific parameters to bring to Wurth Elektronik for a custom design. If you click the customize button below the design in Webench and then click on the transformer in the schematic, there is the ability to see more details regarding the transformer. Webench also offers a detailed report for download on this screen to more easily share your requirements when conversing with Wurth Elektronik. I would not suggest the transformer in the UCC28C56EVM-066 design as this transformer was designed for the EVM's specifications of 40-1000Vin and 15Vout.
