BQ27421-G1: connect the BIN pin with 10k thermistor

Part Number: BQ27421-G1

Hi team,

My customer is looking at our BQ27421.

Could you please kindly help check if it is necessary to connect the BIN pin with 10k thermistor?

What the purpose of this 10k thermistor?

Can they use 100k thermistor?

Or can they use 10k normal resistor and connect to GND?

Thanks,

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

It is not directly necessary to connect a 10k Thermistor to the BIN pin based on what the functionality of that pin will be seen below, however this pin should never be directly shorted:

If a removable pack is being used, then the BIN pin can be connected to Vss using a pull down resistor on the pack side, which is usually the 10k thermistor. This can be seen below:

If the battery is embedded or if this pin is not used, then a 10k pull down resistor can be connected from BIN to Vss.

  • Hi Anthony,

If the battery is embedded or if this pin is not used, then a 10k pull down resistor can be connected from BIN to Vss.

Customer's battery is built-in and can not be removed. They also need to use this pin.

Do they need to pull up to VDD through a resistor?

    Thanks,

    Brian

  • Hi Brian,

The BIN pin registers battery insertion with a logic low signal. I believe that if the customers battery is built-in, they would need to use a 10k pull down resistor from BIN to Vss.
