Hello guys,

One of my customers is considering using BQ25756E to charge 4 cell LiFePO4(14V) battery with Vin=12V.

At this moment, they have the following questions.
Could you please give me your reply?

Q1.
Can BQ25756E output fixed 12V to VSYS or Vin from 14V battery?

Q2.
What does bi-directional mean of BQ25756E?

    1. Yes, the BQ25756E can operate in reverse mode where it provides power to Vin.

    2. Bi-directional means the charger can work in both directions.

    Q. I think the bi-directional function is same as OTG function.
         Is my though correct?
         If it is wrong, could you please explain different point between Bi-directional function and OTG function?

    Hello Kazuya,

    You are correct. Bidirectional mode means the same thing as OTG mode. When the BQ25756 is in reverse mode, the BQ25756 acts as a source. When the BQ25756 is in forward mode, the BQ25756 acts as a sink.

    You can use the register EN_REV to toggle reverse mode and make the BQ25756 source power. This is similar to OTG mode.

    Can BQ25756E output 12V fixed voltage from Vbat to Vin,
    when Vbat is higher or lower than 12V, or even just 12V?
