UCC28064A: Controller selection for charger design

Part Number: UCC28064A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, BQ76952, BQ76940, EV2400,

Hello Team,

I am new to charger development and I have a few questions to understand better about TIs ecosystem for charger development.

I have previously designed BMS by using BQ76940 and Bq76952 TI ICs, I like the approach of configuring the IC through EV2400 and BQStudio sodtware.

I want to know if there is a similar path for charger development as well, Also it would be great if you could recommend few controller for PFC and HB LLC for 1 kW application.

Thank you!

  • Hi Mohammed,

For a 1kW power charger, you can choose between the UCC28064A, UCC28180, or UCC28070.  For the LLC, our new UCC25660 is well-suited for battery charging applications. This controller introduces Input Power Proportional Control (IPPC). This makes it easier to prevent the controller from entering into burst mode when in the constant current phase and VBATT is low.  You can see a short video on how this works here

We do not have a development suite for our controllers as they are analog controllers, we are working on several reference designs that should be showing up in the March timeframe.

    I hope this helps.
