TPS709: Low Dropout specification

The circuit we are considering installing is the drive circuit for LEDs for double-sided scanners.
The output voltage is assumed to be 6.5V product, and the output current is assumed to be max30mA per unit (2 total max60mA).
Is the LowDropout specification consistent with the understanding that the voltage drops when the current is pulled?

    Hi Murayama-san,

    "Low dropout" refers to the low required differential between Vin and Vout of the LDO for regulation.

    Dropout is spec'd as a minimum Vin to Vout differential that must be satisfied for the LDO to regulate at the expected output voltage.

    For example, if the LDO's dropout is 180mV for a 6.5V output, the input voltage of the LDO would need to be at least 6.5V + 180mV = 6.68V for the LDO to regulate 6.5V at its output. If the dropout condition is not satisfied, the LDO will not regulate the expected output voltage; its output will instead track its input voltage.

    It should also be noted, that while TPS709 supports 6.5V fixed output, this version of the device does not currently exist and would need to be developed.
