Hello TI Team,

We want to use bq40z50EVM Li-Ion Battery Pack Manager Evaluation for battery profiling through Battery management studio, but in design we are using bqz4050 Fuel gauge.

Will the above mentioned EVM module works for both bq4050 & bqz4050 or we have to buy another EVM for bq4050 part ?

Hello Arpan,

Yes, the bq40z50 evm will work for the bq4050, since the pin out is the same. You can unsolder the bq40z50 ic and replace it with a bq4050 ic.

Thanks for answering our query. Please also brief about the difference between bq4050 and bqz4050 IC.
Can you please also suggest which communications interface adapter (EV2300 or EV2400 ) will be required to connect with the bq40z50 EVM evaluation module.

Hello Udesh & Arpan,

The main difference between the BQ40z50 and the BQ4050 is the firmware that is used on these IC. The BQ4050 uses a CEDV gauging algorithm while the BQ40z50 uses an Impedance Track gauging algorithm. To learn more about the difference between these gauging algorithms please read this App Note. (www.ti.com/.../sluaar3.pdf

I would recommend using the EV2400.

In the accessories list it's mentioned that EV2400 is also required as usb to i2c adapter. Kindly let us know except this can we use usb to any converter from TI
