TPS50601A-SP: Does it need a min load resistor?

Part Number: TPS50601A-SP

To get more phase margin (above 30deg) I need to add 12 x 330uF caps on the output. Seems excessive. Need help to figure out how to get this number down.

Does this part need a min load resistor? Will it be stable under no load conditions?

Hey Joseph,

Under what conditions are you using this device?
Adding capacitors to the output is not a normal way of compensating a buck converter.
The compensation components are usually calculated based on the equations provided in the datasheet.

There is also generally not the same issue with no load conditions as there are with LDOs.

Daniel, please ignore the stuff about the caps. I only need to know if this part needs a load resistor.

The condition is the part is enabled but all the ICs it powers are disconnected and drawing no current.

Hey Joseph,

The part does not have any issues with no load conditions as long as the compensation is calculated correctly.
