UCC28951: Practical source for VDD (Vbias)

Part Number: UCC28951
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27714EVM-551

Hello,

Can you help me to design a practical source for VDD (Vbias) for the UCC28951 and also the associated gate driver devices.
I have taken a close look at the reference designs such as the UCC27714EVM-551 but these require external bias power supplies.
My input voltage ranges from 55V to 200VDC so somehow I need to generate +12VDC for the VDD of the UCC28951.

Thanks and regards.

  • Hi Dean,

There are several options to create a bias supply. The cheapest of which would be our new UCC28750. If you want to achieve the absolute lowest standby power, the UCC28730 could be an option.

I hope this helps you to get started.

  • Ok, Thanks, was hoping for something a bit simpler than implementing a full flyback converter design, and there is only one distributor with stock of only UCC287502 which always makes me nervous.  Standby power is not really an issue.
I'll keep searching, if it requires a switching regulator I'm thinking HV9910 might be simplest.

  • Hi Dean,

The reason only one distributor has this in stock is that the UCC287502 was just released at the end of last year and TI can sell directly via ti.com. If you are looking for a simple high-side buck regulator (i.e. non-isolated) we have the UCC28881. Or if you need isolation the UCC28910 may be an option.

Do either of these work for you?
