Hi team,
Could it pass ISO16750-2 TestB? Then, do you have recommended circuit including TVS?

Hi Ochi,
I don't think the device by itself can pass the ISO16750-2 Test. You will need to add another TVS/surge protection device.
I've attached an app note here:
Thanks,
Richard
Hi Richard,
Thank you. I understood TVS is needed for decreasing VIN level. If customer has protection circuit prior to their ECU and so LMR34206-Q1 just face 35Vmax VIN, then, additional TVS is not needed, is it correct?
Or even if 35Vmax pulse, do we need TVS protection on its VIN?
Which kinds of TVS do you recommend? Datasheet says "snap-back characteristic (thyristor type)" is not recommended.
Regards,
Ochi
Hi Ochi,
A 35V pulse at the input of the LMR34206-Q1 is OK since it is a 42V device. When selecting a TVS diode, the criterion would be a maximum clamping voltage below our device's abs max, and a minimum stand-off voltage above the maximum steady-state input voltage.

Ridge
Hi Ridge,
Thank you. One more question, could this device regulate its output and no extra thermal dissipation by ISO16750-2 Test-B? We are worrried about this pulse makes thermal dissipation on its DCDC by fast line transient. Or could we consider DCDC operates in normal condition and input current become lower during ISO16750-2 Test-B pulse input (35Vin) than the normal condition (12Vin)?
Regards,
Ochi
Hi Ochi,
How fast is the transient? If the transient is in the millisecond range, then the device would have time to heat up. If the transient is in the microsecond range, then the device may not heat up.
Best regards,
Ridge
Hi Ridge,
35V (clamped) is applied for 300ms by load dump puilse (ISO16750-2 Test-B). Could you estimate or test EVM how much internal junction temperaturenr rise? (DCDC output voltage is 5V)
Regards,
Ochi
Hi Ochi,
I can take a look at the temperature rise for an input of 35V. I will need a couple of days to take the data and will reply to this thread. What is the output current for the application?
Best regards,
Ridge
Hi Ridge,
Output current max is 200mA, could you complete the test by this week?
Regards,
Ochi
Hi Ochi,
Thank you for sharing the specification. I will plan to reply with data by the end of the week.
Best regards,
Ridge
Hi Ridge,
Thank you. I am looking forward to your response by end of this week.

Hi Ochi,
I am closing this thread since we have moved to email.
