Hi, TI expert

The customer is inquiring about recommendations for a RESET IC product for handling the RESET function of the MAIN CPU in their current development model.

- Required performance: Function to reset MAIN_IC when MAIN_IC malfunctions in SUB (LTE / GPS) linked with MAIN_IC

- Supply Voltage : 3.3V

1) RESET IN : 2CH // SUB (LTE/GPS)

2) RESET OUT : 1CH // MAIN-IC

Hi Grady,

Does the customer want a supervisor to monitor the rails of the LTE/GPS or use a watchdog to make sure that these devices are behaving properly?

Hi Grady,

For monitoring device operation we have two options. Timeout Watchdog or Window Watchdog.

A watchdog device, in general, requires a pulse from a controller (i.e CPU, MCU, SoC, etc) within a specific time, if a pulse is not received by the watchdog device within the designated time, the watchdog device with assert a reset pulse to either notify the main controller and/or reset the device.

A timeout watchdog is typically used to monitor a controller and generate a reset pulse if the controller either freeze/hang or stops functioning all together. For a device recommendation we have the TPS35 and TPS3435

A window watchdog can do what a Timeout watchdog can do as well as monitor the controllers clock or process speed up. For a device recommendation we have the TPS36 and TPS3436.
