TUSB544RNQEVM: USB 3.2 to DisplayPort

Part Number: TUSB544RNQEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB564RNQEVM, TUSB564, TUSB544, TIDA-01620, TUSB1064

Dear TI support,

I'm looking for EVM to get started to work on converter USB 3.2 to DisplayPort.

Note: can't use USB C

I found TUSB544RNQEVM and TUSB564RNQEVM not sure what would be the best option.

Please recommend EVM (preferably with USB 2.0 HUB too).

Thank you.

  • Hi,

Do you have a block diagram that you could share?

TUSB564 EVM supports USB/DP Type-C DEMUX to USB or DP.

    TUSB544 EVM supports USB/DP Type-C to USB/DP Type-C

But you are saying not use USB C, so I am looking for further clarification on your design requirement.

    Thanks

    David

  • Hi David,

Thank you for your reply. I need to connect external display (DisplayPort) with USB 3.2 from PC platform.

  • Hi David,

I need EVM like TIDA-01620, instead of USB C should be USB 3.2

    Thank you again.

  • Hi,

If USB3.2 from PC platform is a Type-C port and that Type-C port support DisplayPort Alt mode, then you can use either TUSB564 or TUSB1064 EVM to connect to the external display as shown below.

You can also use TIDA-01620 as another possible choice by plugging it directly into the PC Type-C port.

    Thanks

    David

  • Hi David,

Please let me know if this is correct, I can just use USB C to USB 3.0 cable or adapter?

    TUSB564RNQEVM = TUSB564 and TPS65986 won't need firmware = jumpers setting is it true?

What should I do with CC pins on USB C in this case?

    Thank you,

    Danny.

  • Danny

Please see this white paper for Alternate Mode for USB-C, www.ti.com/.../slly021.pdf.

Please let me know if this is correct, I can just use USB C to USB 3.0 cable or adapter?

For supporting DP, you will have to use USB C to USB C. USB C to USB3.0 can only support USB, not DP.

    TUSB564RNQEVM = TUSB564 and TPS65986 won't need firmware = jumpers setting is it true?

What should I do with CC pins on USB C in this case?

The PD controller on the EVM is already programmed with firmware to support DP Alt Mode over USB-C implementation.

    Thanks

    David
