LM5177: LM5177 design questions...

Part Number: LM5177

Hi Team,

Please help to input your comments for below questions.

Thanks.

1. How to set up the OCP function? use IMONOUT pin or not?

2. How to set the current limit to 5A or 6A?

3. Since LM5177 is cycle-by-cycle current limit protection, while the OCP is fixed, the LM5177 will back to normal mode and work well, right?

  • Hi Peter,

Thanks for reaching out. We'll get back to you with some feedback by tomorrow.

    Thank you and best regards,
    Bryan

  • Hi Peter,

    1.

The LM5177 has to current control function:

    - cycle by cycle peak current detect with over current detection (detected by R_CS - CSA/CSB )

    - average current limit (detected by R_SNS - ISNSP/ISNSN)

Please see datasheet for more details on that :

8.3.9 Short Circuit - Hiccup Protection

    8.3.10.2 Output Current Limitation

    2. Depends on which current limit you would like to have:

    - peak current limit - is done by selecting R_CS

    -Average current limit:

      - With ISET function: With R_SNS and the Resistor at ILIMCOMP
      - with Using internal DAC through R_SNS and internal DAC setting (Note: Filter required at ILIMCOMP

Note: an updated quickstart calculator will be released next week which further helps to configure the average current limit function
Available on the product page then

    3. not sure about your question: If overcurrent is removed, the LM51772 will go back to normal operation.

    Best regards,

     Stefan
