BQ75614-Q1: Use of external clamp diodes

Hello TI team,

For BQ75614-Q1, to protect the device against high voltage (<60V) short on the CB lines, do you recommend to use external diodes?

If there is any application report on this topic, kindly share.

If the external resistors are limiting the current below <200mA, and if this current flows through body diode of internal balancing FETs due to short to other high voltage line, is there any concern?

can you specify body diode current limit?

Hello Nidheesh,

Our internal cell balancing FETs can balancing with a current up to 240mA. External diodes is a good idea for ESD protection.

Take a look at the EVM Users Guide:

They use a diode (SMAJ75A) between PWR and CELL0.

Hi Quentin,

My specific question is related to current carrying capacity of the body diodes of internal cell balancing FET.

Assuming a scenario where CBn shorts with CBn+1 or higher line, body diodes of internal cell balancing FET will conduct event of balancing FET is off.

in such scenario, can it take 240mA?

Yes,
The internal CB FETs should be able to handle a maximum of 240mA.
