TPS1663: Does this eFuse fail in open or closed condition

Part Number: TPS1663

Hi all,

I am currently designing a Power Supply where I want to implement a protection circuit to protect the PSU from fault conditions from the Load side. This eFuse will be the first line of defense and I am worried that a negative voltage on the load side will exceed the voltage ratings of the eFuse and cause it to fail. This is an unlikely scenario but I was wondering how it would fail if I had a pulldown resistor connected to nSHTDN? Will the eFuse fail open-circuit or closed-circuit?

Thanks for the help!

  • Hi Tuege,

Generally negative voltage can cause latch up inside device due to parasitic path turn on. Depending upon current taken by these paths they can damage . Chances of direct VIN to VOUT short fail are less here.
