BQ25750: Inquiry regarding Battery Charger IC

Guru 10890 points
Part Number: BQ25750

Hello,

My customer has some questions about TI's battery charger ICs.

Q1. The maximum number of serial cells supported for products found on TI.com is 16. Are there any products that support more than 20?

Q2. When designing a charging module using the BQ25750, do users have to design charge/discharge algorithms, current detection, etc. themselves? Or are there any materials or program sample codes provided by TI related to this?

Thank you.

  • Hi JH,

Here are my answers to your questions.

Q1: No we do not have any chargers that support > 20S

Q2: Charge is controlled internally in the charger (see page 27 of the BQ25750 datasheet).  Since this is an external, powerpath device, the discharge can be controlled via the external bat FET.  The system can discharge the battery if the FET is closed and the discharge can be stopped by opening the bat FET.
