TPS22975: TPS22975 Vout in shorted case

What will the TPS22975 do if the output voltage is shorted? (Will it break down?)
Our system uses the SD card power supply for this part, but we are concerned about short circuits and are considering whether to include a PTC fuse.

Hello,

The TPS22975 has thermal shutdown so what would happen is that the high power dissipation over the FET would cause the device to heat up and eventually shut down at the shutdown level (TSD = 160C typical in the datasheet) to protect itself. When the device cools down past the hysteresis (20C in the datasheet), the device will turn on and auto retry.

A device like the TPS22950 would have explicit short-circuit protection where a fault could also be reported to the datasheet. We have several over load switches with explicit short circuit protection that you can find below (I filtered for you):
