TPS536C7: SMB_ALERT signal connection

Dear TI Team:

We have component TPS536C7 in our design.and usage is 3.

Now we have SMB_CLK/DIO connected to I2C_SCL/SDA,

But the pin SMB_ALERT# is connected to CPLD, and Now we plan use CPLD collects all SMB_Alert singal and other interrupt signal of devices to one interrupt to CPU.

1. The SMB_Alert signal connection is ok or not?

2.SMB_Alert must be bonded with SCL/SDA or not?

3. You suggest one SMB_ALERT corresponding to one GPIO of CPLD, Or 3x SMB_ALERT from 3xTPS536C7 connect to one GPIO of CPLD? Which one is better?

Hi Lisa,

1. It is okay to connect your CPLD to the SMB_Alert. Just make sure that the CPLD has open-drain capabilities.

1. I2C_SCL is connected to SMB_CLK. I2C_SDA is connected to SMB_DIO. I2C_ALERT is connected to SMB_ALERT. They are independent connections.

3. Each of the controllers needs an independent connection to the alert signal. So make sure each controller's SMB_ALERT is connected to the GPIO.
