TPSM828301: Comparison to TPSM82821 and part availability

Part Number: TPSM828301
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPSM82821,

Good day everybody,

I'm looking at the TPSM828301 and the TPSM82821 as possible DCDCs for a wireless sensor node. My questions:

1. As the 301 is newer and quite similar in specs to the 821, are there any specific shortcomings of the 821 that the newer part addresses? Advantages I currently see are the optimized EMI, higher efficiency at 3V3, possibly the 2Mhz switching frequency.

Specifics for my design: I use an onboard WiFi Chipset (2.4GHz) and will run the module on 3V3. The system will have a low-current operation mode with ~0.5mA draw, and a high-current one with ~100mA average.

2. Octopart shows currently no available stock for the 301. What is the timetable on availability?

3. I looked at the respective EVMs for both modules - As the default voltage for the EVM is 1.8V, I should be able to just desolder/replace the setting resistor(s) to change to my system voltage of 3.3V, correct?

Thank you for your help,

best regards

  • Hello Florian,

    Thank you for using E2E,

    1. As the 301 is newer and quite similar in specs to the 821, are there any specific shortcomings of the 821 that the newer part addresses? Advantages I currently see are the optimized EMI, higher efficiency at 3V3, possibly the 2Mhz switching frequency.

Other than the above specified, TPSM828301 can accommodate the min VOUT of 0.5V.

    Facilitates CISPR 11/32 compliance

         – Integrated on-chip noise-filtering capacitors

         – Measurements according to CISPR available

    2. Octopart shows currently no available stock for the 301. What is the timetable on availability?

You can find some in TI.com invertory

How many devices you would like to order? based upon the number, i can check internally.

    3. I looked at the respective EVMs for both modules - As the default voltage for the EVM is 1.8V, I should be able to just desolder/replace the setting resistor(s) to change to my system voltage of 3.3V, correct?

    Correct.

    Thank you & regards,

    Moheddin.

  • Hello Moheddin,
thanks for your reply and the info! Regarding 2: Thank you, for our prototype run we'll use direct order then most likely. Our assembly service mainly uses Mouser for parts, and as they're situated in Germany and we've had some problems with international shipping in the past, I would like to know if/when the 301 will be available at distributors like Mouser, Farnell etc.

    Best regards

  • Hello Florian,

I will ask the internal marketing and sales team and get back to you.

    Thank you & regards,

    Moheddin.

  • Hello Florian,

TPSM828301 has just been released to production last week.
Digikey and Mouser have already placed orders at TI that should be delivered in July 2024 to them. Farnell is not an authorized distributor of TI.
If your customer needs more than 360 pcs immediately they can look at TPMS828303 of which there are >4ku on TI eStore available.

    Thank you & regards,

    Moheddin.
