TPS2115A: Power mux between 4 batteries that may not be present

Part Number: TPS2115A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2117

I need to design a power mux that can switch between up to 4 batteries that are in parallel and that may or may not be present. Cross-over must be seamless. When a battery is selected, it stays on that battery until it dies. Do you have a part recommendation and sample schematic?

  • Hi Lane,

Do you need any specific priority to these - for example battery 1 > battery 2 > battery 3 > battery 4?

If not, you can use 2x TPS2117, tie both MODE pins to GND, and tie one of the PR1s to GND and put a weak pullup (maybe 100k-1Meg) from the inputs of the first TPS2117 to the second PR1.

If you do need priority to them, then it's easier to use 3x TPS2117 (two in the first layer to take all the 4 inputs, then the outputs of that two into the third one).

    Will either of those work?

    Thanks,

    Patrick
