Hi,

I have a requirement to isolate the PGND & AGND to avoid damage the IC as we are using 300W output application. Is it possible to isolate these GNDs ?

Generally we are having different GND pins provided in the IC. Incase of connecting together within the IC, why there are different pins provided externally ? Do we need to tie it together in any way or how it works ? Does it provided really for isolation purpose ?

    Hi Jehatheeswari,

    thank you for using the E2E forum.

    for the LM5176 you can not eclectically isolate PGNG and AGND.

    However we recommend to have separate GND areas for both and connect this areas (Ground Planes) at the Thermal Pad. This limits disturbances getting injected from PGND into AGND.

    A good layout as a great impact on the performance of a SMPS and if this is done properly there should be no risk of damage or an improvement by isolating AGND and PGND.
