TPS65951 Audio Driver Linux Kernel?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65951, TPS65950, DM3730, TPS65930

I was looking for the TPS65951 Audio driver in the kernel but could not find it.

Could you please point me to the audio driver?

  • Hi,

    You can reuse TPS65950 audio drivers. There isnt any software update required as the differences do not impact the functioning of the audio interface. Please check the differences document on the TPS65951 folder page.

  • Hello Gandhar,

    We are using PMIC TPS65951 with DM3730 in our project, and we are using the Audio of TPS65951. For reference we have TPS65930 on an EVM.

    Linux Kernel version 2.6.32

    For TPS65930 the driver file twl4030.c is used, and I am using the same for TPS65951. Also as per the Feature Difference Sheet between TPS65950 and TPS65951, I havent been able to point out any major changes which might be required in the Driver, just like you mentioned in the above post.

    But when I enable the audio section for the PMIC, I noticed that the PMIC gets heated up to an alarming level. Please note similar observations didnt occur in case of TPS65930.

    Debugging the same, I was able to pin out the issue in the driver file sound/soc/codecs/twl4030.c,

    in twl4030_init_chip

    /* set all audio section registers to reasonable defaults */
    for (i = TWL4030_REG_CODEC_MODE; i <= TWL4030_REG_MISC_SET_2; i++)
    if (i != TWL4030_REG_APLL_CTL)
    twl4030_write(codec, i, cache[i]);

    If I comment out the above section the PMIC doesnt get heated up.  What could be the possible reason for this?

    I am a newbie to such development. I ran out of ideas, why the issue might be occurring. Any guidance would be a great help.

    Thanks and Regards

  • Hello,

    There have been some development. Earlier I was testing my setup with a ramdisk filesystem. Now I have been able to put up a full fledged filesystem, and hence amixer came into the picture.

    Here are the observations:

    1. As the board boots up, the PMIC gets hot.
    2. In the same state I play a short file test.wav, using the command "aplay test.wav". I am able to listen the file from audio headsets.
    3. After the file is played, the IC gradually cools down to normal temp. But if I play the file again, it becomes hot for that amount of time.
    I went through the errata for PMIC TPS65951, but nothing related to heating is mentioned.
    That much is clear, it is due to the audio section, but I am not sure why or where..
    Any one else faced similar issue with PMIC TPS65951?
    Regards
    Sujan
