TPS62877-Q1: Question about stacked mode

Part Number: TPS62877-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS62876-Q1, TPS62876EVM-199

Dear TI experts,

My customer wants to design the power circuit below;

Input voltage : 5V

Output voltage : 0.75V

Output current : over 100A

They found one solution, design 4 stacked mode using TPS62877-Q1.

Here is the diagram of my customer. please check that this diagram is righrt or not.

And here are more questions;

1. TPS62877-Q1 does not provide webench simulation. Is it okay to simulate TPS62876-Q1 instead and regarding less current?

2. Can I use same components (RLC) for 4 stacked mode regarding the result of 1 stacked mode?

3. Do you have any simulation tool about stacked mode?

4. Do you have any schematic or layout guidelines for 4 stacked mode?

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hi Chase,

    You can use this approach but need more specific details like if 120A is peak / Avg current you expect on application.

    I would suggest to use SIMPLIS model to get accurate BOM and performance selection for stack mode operation and I would sugget to take EVM design as reference. It contains 3 stack devices.

    Can you share more detail on application?

  • Dear Tanvee,

    Thank you for your support.

    they said that 100A is average current and do not consider peak current.

    I saw the reference EVM TPS62876EVM-199. it is 3 stacked EVM.

    It is okay to add one more (using same RLC components) for more output current? -> total 4 TPS62876s.

    And Can I change 4 TPS62876s to 4 TPS62877s (using same RLC components) for 120A output current?

    Best regards,

    Chase

  • Hi Chase,

    Yes, you can follow similar design for 4 stack board. You have to calculate compensation and LC values according to your stack selection.

    There are equations mentioned in datasheet for compensation calculation. Let me know if you need help to optimized the solution. I might need more information what load profile expected on it.

    Best regards,
