LM5033: Technical clarification of LM5033 for the replacement

Part Number: LM5033
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5030

Hi team,

In our design, we are planning to replace LM5030 (Current mode PWM controller) with LM5033 (Voltage mode PWM controller)

What are the necessary changes we need to do, to use LM5033 in order to replace LM5030 without much modification in the existing design.

Below are our design specification:

  1. Working mechanism: Push pull topology DC-DC converter
  2. Input voltage = 24V
  3. Output voltage= 200V/2A

Kindly provide the needful information and any technical documents. Awaiting your inputs.

  • Hi,

Both devices are current mode control. For push-pull you have to use current mode, it is very difficult to make voltage control as no known effective way to deal with transformer saturation.

  • Hi @Hong Huang,

     Thanks for the details.

Kindly suggest the alternate for LM5030 for the below requirement.

    1. Working mechanism: Push pull topology DC-DC converter
    2. Input voltage = 24V
    3. Output voltage= 200V/2A

If any design change required for the suggested alternate part, We will check and update in our design.

  • Hi,

If you use it for push pull you need to use it as current mode or use it as intermediate bus which setup 50% duty for each mosfet. It is difficult to deal with transformer saturation when use voltage mode for push pull. You can also use it in half bridge which is ok and have to be voltage mode.
