Hi ,

I am using TPS16630PWPR in my design to limit the output current for the output to 6A . The current limit works but at 5.9A not exactly at 6A . I have couple of issues :

1) I am unable to start the output with load >2A with TPS16630PWPR in circuit . No issues in starting up if the load on output <2A Can you shed some light to why this would be the case ?

2) How can I get fuse to trip at exact 6A ?

Hi Kamal,

1. Current limit will have tolerance due to process, voltage and temp.

2. Starting up into load can cause TSD due to high power dissipation. Using CR load will give better margin for max load current support at startup than CC load.

Thank you for your response. Can you please confirm TSD is not related to the PCB Layout ? . Is this mentioned anywhere in the datasheet ? Is there a way to improve this in CC mode ?

Hi Kamal,

It is general theory that better layout means better thermal metrics like RQJA thus lower junction temp rise of eFuse for given power dissipation. Practical loads will not be like CC load. Please evaluate with your actual load.

Thank you . One last question. I have tried demo board for this IC and I have no issues in starting at load >2A in CC , any ideas why that could be the case ?

Hi Kamal,

Ensure that DVDT cap and current limit settings are matching on your design same as EVM.
