BQ25960: Inquiry about a design concept of USB PD charger

Guru 10890 points
Part Number: BQ25960

Hello,

My customer is considering designing a USB PD charger using the BQ25960 with the features below:

 - Consisting of USB PD IC, switching charger, and flash charger (BQ25960), capable of fast charging over 30W

 - USB PD is a Stnadalone type and only uses PDO, not PPS, with a USB PD adapter

 - Charge with a switching charger when connecting a general charging adapter

 - Charge 8A with a flash charger when connecting a USB PD adapter of 45W or more

Is it possible to design a USB PD charger with the above features including the BQ25960?

If you have a reference design similar to this solution, please share it.

Thank you.

  • Hi JH,

As shown by the Design Requirements in Section 10.2.2.1, "The design requires a smart wall adapter to provide the proper input voltage and input current to the BQ25960, following the USB_PD Programmable Power Supply (PPS) voltage steps and current steps."

We require USB_PD PPS for use with BQ25960. You need to be able to dynamically change the input voltage and current limit to influence the charging current for the BQ25960.
