BQ24297: Issue initiating charging - resolved!

Part Number: BQ24297

Issue resolved: SMT had placed RT1/2 resistor value 3.1K instead of 31.6K (as recommended)

---

Hi!

We have manufactured new custom product using BQ24297 power IC. Charging was not triggered due TS resistor configuration.

Status:

IC says it's not charging (REG08 value hex 84) - gives values 10 = adapter port and 00 = not charging.

Fault REG09 gives value "TOO HOT", so charging is not enabled.

Li-ion battery voltage measured separately is 3.9V.

With external thermistor RTH 103AT the TS = 1.6V, REGN = 5V

To enable charging we should be in VHTF 46% <> VLTF 73% range. Right now with default resistor values we are around 38%.

Questions:

1. Why charger was not charging.

Components:

R41a = RC0402FR-075K23L => 5.23K
R43a = ERJ-2RKF3162X => 31.6K (component was wrong 3.1K)

  • Hi Jussi,

    Thank you for reaching out via E2E. I see you updated the thread to indicate your charging issue was resolved by using the recommended resistor for TS pin resistor network.

    Therefore please consider this thread closed. If you have any further questions on BQ24297 IC feel free to reply to this thread.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
