BQ34Z100-R2: 2.4V NI-MH AAA Fuel Gauge

Part Number: BQ34Z100-R2

I have 2 1.2V 700mAh NI-MH AAA (2.4V total) batteries in series and want to add a fuel gauge to this circuit.

The BQ34Z100-R2 states that it needs a minimum of 2.7V.

If I want to use the BQ34Z100-R2, can  add a buck boost chip to bring the voltage to the BQ34Z100-R2 above 2.7?  If I do does that have any effect on it accurately gauging the use on the 2.4V?

Do you have an alternative idea?

Thanks,

Rich

  • Hey Richard,

We do not recommend manipulating the battery voltage, this we greatly impact gauging accuracy. The only viable solution I can see is changing the application to support 3 batteries in series so the voltage is at 3.6V, which then the gauge will be able to support.
