LM5163: Function safety - Table 4-4 more details needed

Part Number: LM5163

In table 4-4 of the function safety document for the LM5163 (https://www.ti.com/lit/fs/sffs341/sffs341.pdf). This is for failure when adjacent pins are shorted together, but for the package pinout, the 4 middle pins have 2 adjacent pins not just one. The table doesn't explain which adjacent pins are being shorted when there are 2 options. Is there further detail on the test conditions for the middle pins of the package?

  • Hi Nicolas,

Thank you for posting. My understanding is it refers to both directions, namely covering both options,  and lists the worse failure effect class in the table.

  • Hi Nicolas,

Sorry I mistakenly hit TI Thinks Resolve.  I am also checking with our team to get a confirmed explanation. I will update ASAP.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Nicolas,

Sorry for the delay.  We investigated and we agree that Table 4-4 is confusing.  We will need to update it but I cannot give you a specific timeline.

To support this customer so they can move on with the design, I did an preliminary update of Table 4-4 for their reference.  In this table, the short is always between a pair of pins without much ambiguity.  See below for your reference.

    Wish this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Youhao
