TPS61376: How to calculate the buffer capacitor value?

Part Number: TPS61376

Is there theory or formula to calculate the buffer capacitor value?

What are the conditions that we need to know in order to reasonably calculate buffer capacitor value?

  • Hi Yuan,

The input buffer capacitor heavily depends on the system, especially on the characteristic of the Vin power supply, the length of the power line between the Vin supply and the parasitic inductance of the power line. Usually a 47μF to 150μF input buffer capacitor is used. If the Vin power supply is ideal and the parasitic inductance of the power line is small, then even no input buffer capacitor is OK. There isn't a specific theory or formula to calculate the input buffer capacitor.

The output buffer capacitor mainly depends on the required Vout ripples and Vout overshoot/undershoot during line/load transitions. You may refer to the datasheet for the calculation.
