TPS65987D: How to charge with a normal 5V USB power supply

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25723, TPS25751

Hi all,

We designed the charging circuit using TPS65987DDH+BQ25723 which can charge normally using PD protocol .

Now we are faced with the question of what to set up to enable them to charge when plugged into a non-PD power source?

When using a non-PD power source, it only needs to support 5V charging.

What triggers should be set?

Best Regards,

Xavire.

  • Hi Xavire,

As you know, Friday was a holiday in the US. We appreciate your patience as our team catches up on E2E threads created during the long weekend. Please give us a few days and we will respond to your query as soon as we can.

    Best,

    Alex

  • Hi Xavire,

Can you clarify what you want to configure the BQ25723 part to do when the PD sinks 5V with Type-C only?

We do not have an I2C event trigger for 5V implicit Type-C only contracts, if that is what you are asking. The TPS65987DDH is not designed to support pairing with battery chargers. We have the TPS25751 device that is designed for battery charger pairing, which has built-in events to designed to configure the battery charger part. Such an implementation on TPS65987DDH would require the use of an external embedded controller or MCU to configure the BQ25723 when it detects the PD has entered a 5V implicit Type-C only contract.

    Best,

    Alex
