LMR51610: Necessity of reverse current bypass diode

Part Number: LMR51610

Hello,

It is expected that VOUT will be higher than VIN during power supply shutdown.
In such cases with LDOs, it is common to connect an external reverse current bypass diode from VOUT to VIN to prevent reverse current.
Is a reverse current bypass diode required from VOUT to VIN for the LMR51610?

Best regards,

  • Hi Kaji,

If you are expecting VIN to go below VOUT, it is advised to have an external schottky diode as you suggest from SW (cathode +) to VIN (annode -).

This is especially important when the design has a big input capacitance network, as this could cause a large peak current through the intrinsic body diode of the HSFET which it is not intended to support.
