Chemistry table update on bq20z95 device using bqEASY failed and unabled to verify Chemistry ID

Hi,

We are having problem using bqEASY to update Fuel Gauge Data Flash (via select Chemistry Manually). We are getting "Fail read Verify. Abort SubClass83 programming",

SubClass84, 85, 88, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94, and 95. Afterward we bqEASY thinks the Chemistry table has been updated. But when we use bqPro to write SMB command 00, 0x0008 (Chemistry ID) and read back, we got 0x0100 (default ID) back. We belive it should be 1123.

Hi Ian,

It sounds like you are having communication problems with the part. When you enable scanning on the SBS screen of the EVSW, is anything blank or grayed out? If it is not, turn off scanning and go back to bqEasy and try updating the chemistry again. Do you get any errors other than 'Abort Subclass' when you do this?

Hi Jason,
I experienced this exact same issue this morning. With scanning on the SBS screen, there are no blanks or grayed out flags. When updating the chemistry again, the only error is 'Abort SubClass'. Do you have any other suggestions to try? It should be noted this pack was working fine as I was able to capture the 'Golden' file information. The issue occurred after programming the default senc file for the bq20z95.

Do you know whether the chemistry files have been updated on you PC recently? You can also receive that error if you try to update the chemistry files while the gauge in in ROM mode. You can go to the Pro screen and Read SMB Data Command 0D. If the device returns a 0301, then the device is in ROM mode and you need to Send SMB Command 08 to return it to normal mode.

Hi Tom,
The chem files were updated about a month ago. I just ran an update but still get the Abort SubClass message. The device was not in ROM mode when updating the Chem file. This issue occurred after I loaded the default senc file.

Please attach the senc file and I will try it. Also, what ChemID are you trying to load?

I'm using ChemID 2012. I think I have it working now. The default bq20z95 senc file settings are for a 4 series pack. I'm working with a 2S4P pack. Instead of loading the default senc file, I loaded a previous file I had for a 2 series pack. I was then able to update the Chem ID and start the Golden learning cycles.

Looks like it took the zip file.....it wouldn't take just the senc file.

Kevin,
That senc file still have ChemID 100 loaded. Was it the default one or one extracted from the pack after you loaded ChemID 2012? It looks like the default one.
