BQ79718-Q1: Power supply part NPN selection

Part Number: BQ79718-Q1

Hello, TI experts,

In data sheet of 9.1 BAT and External NPN, when selecting the NPN,except the breakdown voltage, what factor should be considered?

In other words, when I repalce the NPN with other Part Name , in what matters could i verified the NPN is functioned?

May you kindly give me some guidance about Power supply part?

  • Hi,

The voltage breakdown and current should inform initial selection, but once you select a part the stability of LDOIN should be tested. There should be minimal ringing on the LDOIN voltage during operation. If there is ringing outside of spec, the bypass capacitor on that pin can be increased to help (but should not be increased beyond 10uF). Additionally, a resistor can be added in series to this capacitor to also help with the stability. It might be worthwhile to add a footprint for a series resistor in the event that it becomes necessary. Please let me know if there are additional questions.

    Best,

    Nancy
