Are there configuration methods other than PMBus for the UCD9222?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD7242, UCD9222, TMS320C6678

We have a design using two TMS320C6678, and I know UCD9222 and UCD7242 should be used.

But we donot know how to configue the UCD9222 using PMBus. Can the UCD9222 work well without

using PMBus? Thank you very much.

  • The UCD9222 controller is a very flexible device which can be used in widely different applications.  To achieve this type of operation it has a number of configurable parameters which need to be set prior to it functioning in a sepcific application.  The configuration is created using the Fusion Digital Power Designer software, a free download from the TI website, and is typically loaded into a device through the PMBus interface during product development, although there are several additional methods which can be used to load this configuration.  Including JTAG and the capability to write a hex file directly to the data flash, these methods require their source file to be written out of a controller that has already been configured.

There is a document called Configuration Programming of UCD Deviceswhich can be found in the Documentation & Help Center of the Fusion Digital Power Designer GUI which explains the options available for applying the configuration.  Some customers have a distributor load the configuration prior to assembly, others have their CM/internal manufacturing load the configuration.  A project file (.XML) is required no matter how the controller is configured and should be generated from the Fusion Digital Power Designer GUI by the hardware designers.
