On the Power Delivery side, we would probably use and external 100W PSU with USB-C, and we will consume probably 60 to 70 Watts.

Scenario 1 is that this plug would be exclusively to power our unit, while scenario 2 would be powering the unit (up to 100W) but also be able to give power up to 15W to external phone or device.

I have taken a look at your website, and the TPS65987D seems a good candidate.

Can you confirm it will work?

The second USB-C port would only be able to give 15W to an external device along with USB 2.0 and 3.1 data.

On this one, not sure if we limit to 5V only or 5V/9V… and which PD controller to choose from.

What device do you recommend?

If it is source-only with no video, then my recommendations would be as follows:

1. Single-port: TPS65987D

1 – What ICs do you recommend for a DRP port, Sink (100W) & source (15W)?

2 – What ICs do you recommend for sourcing-only 15W and having a DP out ALT-Mode ?

Do you have application schematics, or bloc diagrams for these cases?

For DRP port with no video:

Single-port: TPS25751

For sourcing-only 15W with alt-mode:

Single-port: TPS65987DDK

The EVM user guides will have the most straight forward block diagrams to use.

The customer let me know that they were looking at the CCG7SC CYPD7171 for the updated PD 3.1 Spec. Do you know if the PD3.1 spec is required for USB-IF certification? I cannot find a solid answer.

Do we have something that is similar to the CCG7SC CYPD7171?

USB-IF certification will leverage the current spec.

No, we do not have something similar to CCG7. Our solution is paired with another TI buck-boost as a two chip solution.

I have a couple follow up questions. The TPS65987D only claims to be a PD3.0 device, has this been recertified for PD3.1. If so what is its new TID#? I have gotten information from Granite River Labs that only PD3.1 can be USB-IF certified now. Also, I’m not looking for an AC/DC solution, is the TIDA-010047 the link you intended to send?

No, unfortunately it cannot support PD3.1

I am not clear after rereading the use-case and subsequent comments. Is it a one-port or two-port system? Is it DRP or source-only and for which port? These answers would greatly help clarify.

Our current design is a 60W (20V@3A) USB-C connection to a Tablet/Laptop (Surface Pro 9). The design is a UFP Source design since it is a Dock with a USB Hub on board. I would like the design to meet PD3.1 since it is my understanding that this is required for USB-IF certs. Our current products use a Cypress CYPD3123. This has been a great work horse for us and has been used in all of our PD designs up to this point. But with the requirement of this on being USB-IF certified I don’t believe the PD3.0 works any more. We require temp rating of -40 to 85 but no Automotive qualifications. I would like to find a solution that is supports essentially all operating modes so that we could use it again on many future projects.

Above is the background on what they want. they are currently using the CCG7SC CYPD7171. They need a PD3.1 device. Can you please make a recommendation for a specific device that supports docking and the DC/DC converter that will pair with it? The reference designs you shared were not useful to the customer because they were AC/DC. Please let me know what devices would make our solution.
